December 2025

As winter crawls on, the weather in Culpeper often becomes more and more unpredictable. What is beautiful one moment can turn rather quickly. This was the story of our last launch for calendar year 2025. Saturday was very nice, intermittent clouds, however, flights to about 5,000 were doable for the majority of the day. Winds were light to moderate blowing in the best direction possible. When the sun was out, temperatures were downright comfortable (for December that is). A total of 82 flights took to the skies ranging from 1/2A to L power. Among these were several very nice two stage low power flights. As flying activities wound down for the day the winds came up and everything changed. The launch for Sunday was cancelled as winds were very strong, temperatures were in the high 20s, and some snow fell overnight. More flight statistics and pictures from the launch are below:

Low and Mid-Power flights: 61, High Power flights: 21

The low / mid-power racks were busy all day with a total of 61 flights. Here we see a Dragon Fly, upscaled Estes Mosquito, and a really nice two-stage bird.
Ignition of a Aerotech I280 DarkMatter! This was a TRA L1 cert attempt that left the rail HARD! Unfortunately, after a long search the rocket was not found.
A single grain 54mm I229 got this L1 cert going in a HURRY! This one was 100% successful with recovery taking place about a 1/4 mile down range.

Pictures do not do this next one justice. This WildMan Rocketry Bad Dog, was impeccably finished with a paintjob worthy of an elite show car. The flight on a 54mm Aerotech J460 was just as good as good with a perfect dual deploy recovery.

This L2 cert attempt with a 4″ LOC Precision Goblin pulled over 35 Gs leaving the rail thanks to an aggressive Aerotech J500 Mojave Green. The flight hit over 3,500′ and was 100% successful!
This massive upscale of an Estes Big Daddy thundered off the rail thanks to an Aerotech K1100 Blue Thunder.
Beautiful flight heading for the skies over Battlepark under Aerotech White Lightning Power!!!

The largest flight of the day was this Performance Rocketry Performer 150. This 45 pound rocket thundered off the away cell powered by a 75mm Aerotech L1256 Super White Lightning. Recovery was as perfect as the liftoff.

Two pictures of a gorgeous N1. This one was impeccable.

An Estes Pro Series II Optima Pro ready to go on the mid-power launch rail.
Gettin after it on Aerotech G power!
